Convicted Sex Offender Comes to School Dance

Huntsville, Al. (Information Courtesy WAFF-TV) -- A convicted sex offender is in custody after attempting to take a 14-year old girl to a school dance.

25-year old Gregory Ray Brooks of Athens, Alabama was arrested Friday evening on charges of public intoxication and violation of the community notification act after loitering on school property.

Brooks arrived at the Athens Middle School dance with a 14-year old girl and was stopped by faculty members at the door.

Brooks fled the scene after a security gaurd began talking to a witness.

He was aprehended at a local laundromat where police determined he was a sex offender, convicted of sodomy 1st degree in 2004.

Brooks was taken to the Limestone County Jail.

School officials say he did not come into contact with any children and no children were in danger.

    William Huff terrorized Sierra Vista during the spring and summer of 1967. Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
