Montgomery, Al. (WSFA) -- A Montgomery Police Officer was involved in an early morning shooting Wednesday.
The incident happened in the area of Calmar Drive and Eastern Boulevard near Igor's restaurant around 3a.m.
According to a Montgomery Police Department report, the officer made a traffic stop and while out of his vehicle, realized he had pulled over possible suspects in connection with a breaking and entering case that had just occured.
The officer ordered the driver to step out of the vehicle, a black Mercury Grand Marquis, but the driver refused and began to drive off.
The police officer felt he was in imminent danger and fired his weapon at the suspect.
The man was hit in the lower back.
The driver, who has not been identified, drove himself to Baptist South Medical Center where he was treated for serious but non-lifethreatening injuries.
He is listed in stable condition at this hour.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigations is handling the case.
