Opelika Police Purchase New Vehicles

Opelika Police are zipping around in new patrol vehicles.  The department bought two P2 motorized vehicles for about $10,000 each.

The personal mobility vehicles complete with lights and sirens.  They run on rechargeable batteries and are designed to help officers with crowd control.  "We can use them at Auburn football games, high school games, Christmas parade, Fourth of July events," says Opelika Police Captain Allen Elkins.

The department will start using the new vehicles right away.

In December of 2007, Montgomery Police purchased similar motorized vehicles.
