4-year old Dothan Girl Mauled by Pit Bull

Dothan, Al. (WSFA) -- A  four year old child is being treated at a Dothan hospital today after being mauled by a dog.

The Dothan Police and Fire Departments responded to 601 South Ussery Street where the incident happened.

The child was apparently bitten  numerous times in the face by a Pit Bulldog.

According to a release from the Dothan police, the animal was owned by one of the residents of 601 Ussery Street.

At this time police aren't sure what provoked the dog to attack the 4-year old. Both the victim and the victim's family were familiar with the animal.

Investigators located and siezed the dog, which was located in the fenced-in back yard of the residence.

The case is under investigation. There is no word yet on what charges the owners might face or what will happen to the dog.

WSFA 12 News Reporter Daniel Curtis is working on this story and will have more information tonight on WSFA 12 News at 6 and 10.
