Auburn, Al. (WSFA) -- Auburn University officials say they will create a scholarship fund in memory of slain freshman Lauren Burk, who was shot and killed off campus March 4th.

Officials say they want to give Burk's family and friends time to grieve, but when the time is right, they will work with the family to establish an appropriate memorial.

A similar fund has already been established at Oglethorpe University, where Burk's parents went to school.

Students at a number of college campuses are selling wrist bands to benefit the Oglethorpe scholarship.

23-year old Courtney Lockhart of Smiths Station, Alabama was taken into custody and later confessed to the kidnapping, robbery, attempted rape and murder of the Auburn University freshman.
