Email Scam Circulating Around Montgomery

Montgomery, Al. (WSFA) -- A new email scam is making the rounds in the Montgomery area, and it's playing on fear in order to con people out of their money.

Montgomery Police Department spokesman Captain Huey Thorton says the email goes something like this:

You recieve an email from a male subject who informs you that a friend of yours has contracted him to kill you.

The "contracted killer" then offers you a way to save your life by wiring him money.

The scam artist then advises that if you do not reply in a timely manner, he is also going to harm your family.

The email ends with a warning not to call the police and to stay inside once it is 7:30 p.m. until the deal is sorted out.

The Montgomery Police Department has checked into these emails and determined they are not legitimate; instead they are being circulated in an attempt to scam citizens of money.

The police department suggests you simply delete the email from your computer.
