An email scam is circulating at Auburn University. It appears to be from the university's federal credit union, but the school's IT department warns that it's a fake.
They call it a phishing scam. That's where someone impersonates a financial institution in an effort to get your account number and other information. It even has an official-looking Auburn University logo.
School officials remind you to be cautious whenever you're asked to give personal information over the Internet.
"What these type e-mails do is they ask for personal information whether it be your account number, your password, everything it needs to get your identity," explained AU Technology Specialist Seth Humphrey.
If you receive the e-mail, you're asked to forward it to Auburn so the school can track down the source. The e-mail address is below:
