The man who invented one of the world's most famous breakfast sandwiches has died.
 
Herb Peterson, creator of McDonald's Egg McMuffin passed away Tuesday at his home in California.

He was 89-years old.

Inspired by his love of Eggs Benedict, Peterson created the breakfast sandwich in 1972.
 
The sandwich made its debut at the McDonald's restaurant he co-owned with his son.

Peterson is survived by his wife, son and three daughters.
