Hayneville is the seat of government in Lowndes county. The city boasts a small-town feel with modern conveniences. The town's mayor says that's what draws people to Hayneville. She says it has a population of around 1100.
"And it's growing every day," said Mayor Helenor Bell.
Two state highways will take you into the town square. They are accessible from Interstate 65.
Mayor Bell says Hayneville's close proximity to Montgomery, Selma and Greenville make it a popular place to live.
"People like living here with the suburban life and living in the country, so Hayneville provides a great niche for people trying to get away from the urban areas," Bell said.
It's also a popular place for new business. With the Hyundai plant just up the road in Montgomery, a new Comfort Inn and Chevron have already announced plans to build along the interstate.
"They've been to our city council meeting and asked if they could connect to our water and sewage and whether we would annex out there," Bell explained. "Of course we agreed."
Bell also points to a new police and fire department nearing completion and a new city library and senior center that is under construction. But she says Hayneville hasn't lost its small town appeal.
"We're here to help each other and that's a good thing about Hayneville," she said.
