The fifth annual Red Cross Classic golf tournament was held at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club on Monday, March 24th benefiting the American Red Cross of Central Alabama.
Taking top honors as the "Red Cross Classic Champs" was Team Alagasco made up of members Mike Thrasher, Marc Burdett, Keith Chambers and Lehman Tucker. Team Alabama Power took second place with members Randall Pinkston, Ed Wright, Wray Anderson and Mike Greene and placing third was Team Dean DeLongchamp made up of members Dean DeLongchamp, Pete Petitti, Ed Conti and Mike Roberts.
Individual honors went to Debra Watkins for the Longest Drive on hole #16 and Mike Greene for Closest to the Pin on Hole #7.
Local golfers enjoyed lunch and 18 holes of golf all while supporting the programs and services the American Red Cross sponsors locally. "The Red Cross does extraordinary things in our community and makes such an impact. I'm delighted to be able to come out and play a round of golf to support such a great cause," said Brian Corbin of Team Wireless Advantage Alltel.
"The Red Cross of Central Alabama has been honored to serve this community for 91 years, and we rely on support of our special events to fund our services," said chapter CEO Jackie Buck. Last year alone, the chapter provided assistance to victims of more than 399 disasters, issued 17,462 Health & Safety certificates, and assisted 281 households with Project Share funds to pay utility bills. Red Cross processed 476 emergency communications message for military personnel and their families, presented disaster education information to over 50,000 and held 561 blood drives that garnered 10,545 pints of blood.
