For the first time the small Lowndes County town, Fort Deposit will have public library. Thanks to a couple of state grants totally $110,000 the project is happening.
The grants will pay to convert the old Fort Deposit Motor Company building into the library. When the legislature passed a $1 billion bond issue to improve schools it included about $6 million for libraries.
Fort deposit library president, Dan Therrien, says they were in the right place at the right time. "We are so fortunate because it provided exactly what we needed to provide the renovation of this facility so we could open to our citizens."
More than books will fill the library, there will also be a computer lab, teen center, children's area and a job skills training area.
