Avery Ann Hildreth Loses Battle with Brain Tumor

Montgomery, Al. (WSFA) -- With a bright smile and a sweet spirit, Avery Ann Hildreth could light up a room.  During her visits to the set of Alabama Live! she often chose to turn off her celebrity status and take a back seat to Mom.

Her attention was usually focused on what was going on behind-the-scenes rather than on catching the limelight.

It was her mother who did all the talking, explaining the battle young Avery Ann Hildreth waged since she was ten months old.

Now we learn that Avery, who turned 5-years old just last month, passed away over the weekend.

"Our sweet angel earned her wings this morning at 2:30," writes her father in the couples' web journal. " She is with all of her special friends in the heaven. Our baby is finally resting peacfully and not in pain anymore."

Avery was diagnosed with a malignant anaplastic ependymoma, or brain tumor, in January of 2004.

Before most children learn to read and write, Avery had already undergone two brain surgeries and over 50 rounds of radiation.

Despite the set backs, her parents write that she was the happiest child in the world.
