Montgomery's Murder Rate Down So Far In 2008

Montgomry, Al. (WSFA) -- The 9th murder of the year occurred Sunday morning not far from the Montgomery Police Department. Sadly, Shyya Robinson lost her life when someone shot her to death. Police say they're looking for her ex-boyfriend 42-year old Joseph Miller. Investigators believe Robinson was killed during a domestic disturbance with Miller.

While Robinson became the city's 9th murder victim, the overall murder rate is down compared to this time last year with 20 murders.

Chief Art Baylor believes the slow-down to the murder rate could be attributed to several factors; more officers on the streets, additional neighborhood programs such as 'Stop The Violence,' and community policing.

Community leaders hope the trend continues considering how 2007 ended. The city ended the year with 45 murders, a 32-year high.
