NASA Releases Never Before Seen Footage in High Definition

On Tuesday, NASA released decades-old restored film footage of never-before seen shots of Gemini, Mercury and Apollo missions.

The footage has been transferred to high definition in a joint project between NASA and Discovery Channel.

Included in the pictures, the first space walk performed by astronaut Ed White.

"Transferring this old footage into high definition will enable the public to relive the NASA story in an entirely new way," said NASA administrator Michael Griffin.

More than 50 years of footage was converted.

The film will be given back to NASA and stored at Johnson Space Center in Houston.
