Montgomery Man Leads Dothan Police on High Speed Chase

Dothan, Ala. (WSFA) --  A Montgomery man led police on a wild high speed chase, then took officers on a manhunt, all the result of not one but two armed robberies.

The story begins at 7:58 when Dothan police responded to a robbery call at Family Dollar on Westgate Parkway, where a cashier robbed at gunpoint.

Minutes later, police responded to another robbery at a Big Lots store on the Ross Clark Circle.

Another cashier robbed at gunpoint.

After the second robbery an off duty officer spotted Gregory Lawon Debardelaben's car on Westgate Parkway.

Patrol officers moved in and tried to pull him over.

The driver Debardelaben didn't cooperate and sped off instead.

Officers gave chase up U.S. 231 toward Midland City.

Police say the driver hit speeds in excess of 90 miles and hour.

As the chase entered Newton, Debardelaben's car crashed.  He ran into the woods where an employee spotted him, told police who swooped in and took Debardelaben into custody.

He wound up in the hospital for treatment.

Debarbelaben is charged with two counts of first degree robbery.

He is in jail held on bonds totaling $1,000,000.
