Montgomery Motor Speedway Auction

A piece of Montgomery's sports history went on the auction block Thursday and failed to attract a winning bidder.

Montgomery Motor Speedway owner Bill Manfull put the race track up for sale to the highest bidder. In spite of some recent publicity about the potential sale, just a few potential buyers attended and only a couple submitted bids. Some drivers talked of submitting a group bid.

"With the way the economy is right now, we just couldn't get up enough guys to financially get it done," said race car drive Billy Ammons.

Ammons and other drivers who attended say the owner is now threatening to tear down the speedway and turn it into a junk yard. Manfull declined to speak with WSFA 12 News.
