President Honors Troops on Memorial Day

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - President Bush has paid tribute to America's fallen troops during a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

The president placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns and spoke of the sacrifices of service members and their families. He recalled the troops who returned from faraway lands "to cemeteries like this one, where broken hearts received their broken bodies."

The president said Americans must honor their memories by having "the courage and character to follow their lead" in preserving peace and freedom. Attending was a crowd of military brass, veterans and their families. On this, Bush's last Memorial Day as president, the crowd gave him a standing, cheering ovation.
