Man Critically Injures Attempted Home Invasion Suspect

Montgomery, Al. (WSFA) --Montgomery police say the Wednesday morning shooting at a local apartment complex was not a random act.

Police say a man was inside his apartment when two men started banging on the door trying to get in.

That's when the man inside took action.

Police are still trying to determine what exactly happened but do say things got out of hand quickly.

Officials say two men tried to force their way into a Vaughn Lakes apartment.

When the man inside the apartment realized they had a hand gun, police say the apartment owner went and got his own gun.

He fired six to eight shots hitting one of the two men.

After that, the other suspect fled the scene.

Capt. Huey Thornton, spokesman for the Montgomery Police Department says, "We feel like they have some knowledge of who this person is...we haven't determined what the connection is at this point...but based on the way the scene is set up we don't suspect it was a random act."

The shooting victim was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

The other man, police say was involved, turned himself in to police.
