Covering Houston County: Elston Jones Selected As Candidate for Director of Leisure Services

Dothan, Ala. (WSFA) -- Friday morning Dothan City Manager Mike West appointed Elston Jones to his candidate to fill the job of director for Leisure Services.

After 28 years in Dothans Leisure Service department, Elston Jones is ready for his next step.

"I'm really excited, I'm looking forward to leading this department," said Jones.

Friday Jones was selected as city manager Mike Wests appointment for the director of the department.

Jones started his career with Dothan back in 1980.  His first job was recreation leader at Lincoln Community center, now the Andrew Belle center.

He's come along way since, now he's assistant director of programs.

During those years he's accomplished a lot, the Azalea Dogwood trail and pageant, Older Americans day, but he says his most important work was on the Miracle League for special citizens.

"The appearance of a park, all those things are very important to us, the standards are high now and we expect to take it to the next level in order to provide quality facilities and programs to our citizens," explained Jones.

Now with the directors job ahead of him he's already planning for the next big thing in leisure services.
