Montgomery Records 10th Homicide of the Year

Montgomery, AL (WSFA) -- A squabble between two men in southeast Montgomery left one of them dead and one person is in police custody. It happened Friday night. Authorities tell WSFA 12 News a man allegedly stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife, but the nature of the crime is still up in the air. It happened inside an apartment on Strathmore Drive, just off East South Boulevard in Montgomery.

Just after midnight, police say 30 year old Blake Samuel got into an argument with the victim, 38 year old Vincent Yelder. That argument turned physical, according to police, and Samuel allegedly stabbed Yelder in the chest.   He later died at a local hospital.

Witnesses  tell WSFA 12 News that Samuel may have been acting in self defense and he even tried resuscitating the victim before police arrived.   These reports have yet to be confirmed by authorities, and Samuel now sits in the Montgomery County jail with a murder charge and $50,000 bond.

This marks the city's 10th homicide of 2008 which is right at half the number of homicides reported at this time last year.
