Editorial Crime Decrease 6-19-08
We continue to take back our neighborhoods.
Nearly half way through the year, crime is down in Montgomery.
Through May of last year, we had 20 homicides. This year we have 10.
Through May of last year, we had 258 individual and business robberies.
This year we have 191.
Last month alone crime was down 7% from May of last year.
Overall crime for this year is down just a half percent, but the actual numbers from last year for violent crime was down more than 2% from 2006 in spite of the huge increase in murders.
So this is a trend that really spans more than the six months of this year.
Stay vigilant. Tough economic times could spike these numbers.
We all play a part in keeping our neighborhoods safe.
