WSFA 12 News Exclusive: New Archbishop Visits Capital City

Montgomery, AL (WSFA) -- The head of the Catholic Church in this region paid a visit to Montgomery on Sunday just two weeks after his appointment by the Pope.   Archbishop Thomas Rodi spoke to members of St. Peter's Catholic Church downtown and offered communion.

As the new leader of the mobile archdiocese, Archbishop Rodi says he realizes Catholics are a minority in portions of the South, and because of that, the church is having a hard time recruiting new priests.

Archbishop Rodi also told WSFA 12 News that he's just letting the appointment sink in and he's getting acquainted with Catholics throughout the area.  Archbishop Rodi also boasts a diverse background.  He graduated from Tulane university's law school and was a member of Louisiana's state bar before joining the church.
