MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Education Association has lost a court challenge of Bradley Byrne's hiring as the state's two-year college chancellor. Three leaders of AEA had filed a suit contending that the State Board of Education didn't comply with Alabama's open meetings law when hiring Byrne last year. Montgomery County Circuit Judge Gene Reese has ruled that the school board complied with the law. Byrne said Tuesday he always expected to win the case. He says it's unfortunate that taxpayers' money had to be spent to defend against the suit.
