Mayor of Tuskegee Rings Opening Bell at NASDAQ

Montgomery, Al. (WSFA) -- Tuskegee Mayor Johnny Ford was in the Big Apple Friday to help open the stock market.

Ford was part of a group that presided over the bell ringing at the NASDAQ Stock Exchange Opening Bell Ceremony in New York City.

The event was in recognition of National HIV Testing Day.

Mr. Ford served at Tuskegee's first black mayor in an administration that lasted for over two decades (1972-1996).

A successful campaign for State Representative of Macon County took Ford to Montgomery from 1998 to 2004.

He returned to the mayor's office after re-election in 2004.

Mayor Ford also holds the position of Founder and Director General of the World Conference of Mayors.
