Auburn-Opelika Named One of Greatest Golf Retirement Spots

A national magazine confirmed this week what many golf lovers in East Alabama already know.

U.S. New & World Report named Auburn-Opelika as one of the "Ten Greatest Retirement Spots for Golf Nuts." The Robert Jones Golf Course at Grand National was mentioned specifically in the article as being extremely beautiful and affordable.

"It's going to bring again more tourism to the area, of course your hotels are going to benefit, your downtown Auburn shops and your railroad and Opelika community are going to benefit from the increased tourism. So it does nothing but benefit the entire community," said RTJ spokesman Jason Harris.

You may remember that in 2005 the Auburn-Opelika area was named the top city for golf by Golf Digest.
