Jogging in the morning, cycling on the weekends, kids playing baseball, Saturday morning soccer - there are thousands of sporting activities taking place each day in central Alabama.
For 33 years, Baptist Health has been helping active people of all ages stay healthy. Now we are making a new commitment to the athletes out there for a comprehensive sports medicine program - Baptist Health Sports Medicine (BHSM).
BHSM offers central Alabama's most comprehensive sports medicine program, including:

- certified athletic trainers on-call 24-hours a day
- orthopedic physicians on-call 24-hours a day
- support of Baptist Health's comprehensive range of services and facilities

- special injury clinics during football season
- services of certified athletic trainers offered for all other sports as needed, including tournaments and major events
- provides physicals for your students/athletes at your school site
- affiliation with SportsFirst Family Health and Fitness
BHSM's "Sports Medicine University" offers a "curriculum" of programs for "freshmen" through "graduate students" for trainers, coaches, athletes and parents. Faculty includes certified athletic trainers, board-certified family practice and orthopedic physicians, exercise physiologists, registered dietitians and other health professionals.
BHSM is now an approved continuing education units (CEUs) provider by the NATA and NSCA, providing CEU courses for certified athletic trainers and coaches from all levels.
Preventing injuries from occurring is one of the main goals of BHSM. We start by having pre-season physicals performed on-site by physicians who have special training in detecting potential problems. We emphasize the importance of proper equipment, warm-ups and cool-downs. We help the athlete with increasing strength, flexibility and endurance. And by working with coaches and having certified athletic trainers on the field, we can monitor the athletes for problems before they occur.
Even the best-prepared athlete can suffer an injury. Isn't it good to know that Baptist Health, the areas leading healthcare provider, has partnered with board-certified family practice, orthopedic physicians and emergency care providers to assess your injury quickly and provide fast care at a lower cost?
With extended hours at our Taylor Crossing PriMed and 24-hour coverage at Baptist Medical Center East's Emergency Department, we can have you on the road to recovery without long waits at a designated trauma center.
The physical rehabilitation specialists of BHSM will determine the best way to get your body back to performing at its best. Through our association with nationally known HealthSouth and our state-of-the-art physical therapy and rehabilitation facilities, BHSM and Baptist Health can get you back into the game of life.
