Sweet home Alabama has been bittersweet for many college students swindled by questionable colleges delivering worthless diplomas.
Cheers to the Department of Postsecondary Education for attempting to change our state's reputation as a diploma mill.
We editorialized in March for legislation to provide stronger oversight to prevent fake degrees and fraudulent accreditation from occurring here.
Alabama lawmakers didn't move on it so Chancellor Bradley Byrne has, strengthening regulations governing for-profit colleges and developing a report card allowing students to compare colleges statewide.
Allowing academic and economic fraud because of lax oversight needs to stop.
Enforcing these new regulations is a good start.
