MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A wreck on Interstate 65 is slowing traffic this evening after an 18-wheeler driver suffers an apparent heart attack and dies.
The accident happened on the Herron Street service road. The driver drove down the embankment and hit a pick-up truck that was traveling northbound on I-65.
Both vehicles ended up on the southbound side on the interestate under the Clay Street overpass.
According to police, the driver of the pick-up truck was taken to a local hospital suffering from minor injuries.
Montgomery Police Department Spokesman Lt. Keith Barnett says the accident could have been much worse.
Barnett says reduced speeds in the area, brought on by the Progress 65 construction zone, might have helped reduced the severity of the crash.
