National Organization Helps Families Deal with Losing Loved Ones in War on Terror

Montgomery, Al (WSFA) -- Coping with the loss of loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan can be a lonesome journey but with the help of the tragedy assistance program for survivors or TAPS, the families of our fallen heroes don't have to walk alone.

The program offers peer-support assistance to help families dealing with the loss of a loved one in military service.

The organization held a seminar in Montgomery on Saturday. TAPS director Bonnie Carrol says,"It's particularly important for the children. They find out they're not alone in their grief and they learn how to handle the tough times they're facing at home or in school."

The seminar wrapped up with a balloon release to honor their loved ones.
