I-65 reopens after cattle truck crash

CLANTON, AL (WSFA) - Interstate 65 is back open this afternoon after police shutdown a nearly 20 mile stretch in both north and southbound lanes overnight.

The shutdown was ordered  after an 18 wheeler carrying cattle struck a guardrail and turned over.

Cows were running all over the interstate, and Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis tells us several of the cattle were struck by cars before emergency responders could shut down the roadway.

Officials say the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the wreck.

The southbound lanes were closed at mile marker 205 between Clanton and Verbena and was rerouted onto Highway 31. Northbound lanes of traffic were directed around mile marker 186 at the Pine Level Exit.
