Report Out on Fatal Houston County Sheriff's Van Crash

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - An Alabama State Trooper report is out in a fatal accident involving a Houston County sheriff's inmate transport van.

The van and two other vehicles collided at the corner of Vaughn and Pike Roads on July 22.

Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes tells WSFA 12 News the findings from a state trooper investigation indicate the officer was using a cell phone with the jail when he ran a red light.

The van then crashed into the other vehicles.

Killed in the accident was Terry Irvin, a Houston County inmate.

Sheriff Hughes says the state's findings will be turned over to Montgomery's district attorney who will then present the case to a Grand Jury.

WSFA 12 News will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
