MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Mario Woodward learned his fate Wednesday afternoon - life without the possibility of parole.
The decision was handed just after 2:00pm Wednesday at the Montgomery County Court House.
The jury's decision fell 8 to 4 in favor of a life sentence. Woodward could have received the death penalty.
Guilty verdicts in capital murder cases receive an automatic appeal.
Woodward was convicted in the September 2006 murder of Montgomery police officer Keith Houts. Houts died after pulling Woodwards' car over on a routine traffic stop.
