Continental flies out of Montgomery for final time

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Tuesday was the last day of service in Montgomery for a major airline company.

A Continental Airlines aircraft flew out of the capital city for the last time just before 6:00pm.

The Houston-based company flew the only flights west to Houston from the capital city.

The Montgomery Chamber of Commerce says this is, naturally, a concern as Montgomery continues to grow and new businesses move to the area.

Ellen Mcnair of the MCC says, " Obviously, we are very much working with the airport authority and the airport staff to try to see what other options are available to the community, because this is very important to the business community."

Continental was responsible for approximately 10% of all passengers to or from the Montgomery airport.

Airport officials say the financial impact of the airline's move is hard to measure.
