BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Seven players scored touchdowns and Samford held Faulkner to 37 yards of offense in a 62-0 victory on Saturday. The Bulldogs (2-0) led 41-0 at halftime and rushed for 362 yards to defeat Faulkner, a NAIA program in its second season.
Marcus Rice led Samford with 81 yards rushing and a touchdown. Chris Evans added 66 yards and two touchdowns. Brock Johnson scored on his only carry, a 52-yard run in the first quarter to give Samford a 7-0 lead.
Samford quarterback Dustin Taliaferro threw for 95 yards and hooked up with Alex Barnett on a 64-yard touchdown reception with 35 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Taliaferro and backup quarterback Richie Fordham combined to go 11-for-13 for 142 yards as Samford rolled up 510 yards of offense.
Faulkner (0-1) lost four fumbles, threw two interceptions, went 1-for-12 on third-down conversions and had a punt blocked that was returned for a touchdown.
