UAB kidney research wins $4.23 million grant

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The National Institutes of Health has awarded a $4.23 million grant to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for research aimed at providing better treatment and prevention of acute kidney disease.

The grant, announced Tuesday, will be administered over a five-year period.

UAB will partner with researchers at the University of California at San Diego in the clinical study.

The school's kidney research center was among eight facilities in the U.S. to receive the funding.
