BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Birmingham City Council is seeking more information on city finances amid a blizzard of new projects proposed by Mayor Larry Langford.
Langford has unveiled plans ranging from street cars to a bid for the Olympics since taking office last year.
But officials say Langford's staff has failed to provide monthly financial reports to city leaders because of a computer problem.
So Council President Carole Smitherman is proposing new rules requiring the mayor to give regular reports on Birmingham's financial condition.
She also wants the mayor to identify specific funding sources for all new projects.
Langford said he doesn't have a problem with the proposal.
