LOXLEY, Ala. (AP) - Four Loxley police officers who were suspended after an armed bank robber was shot to death have returned to duty following an internal review of the case.
Maj. Anthony Lowery, spokesman for the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, said the officers returned to duty on the 10-person force Wednesday after the review concluded they did nothing wrong in the death of 48-year-old Raymond Schaefer of Dulac, La.
Schaefer had just robbed the Regions Bank in Spanish Fort on the morning of Sept. 12 when Loxley police stopped his pickup.
Lowery said Schaefer ran to a grassy drainage ditch beside the highway, then pointed a handgun at the officers, forcing them to shoot him.
The case will eventually be presented to a grand jury.
