I thought Sunday morning when I got the paper that I had won $200,000 and when I came here she met me with the one million.
88 year old Rose Marks could not believe her eyes when she saw that huge check waiting for her at lottery headquarters.
Rose matched all five regular numbers in Saturday's Powerball drawing... 6, 28, 30, 40, and 47.
She did not get the Powerball, but she did pay an extra dollar for the power play, the number five.
"She made a great decision to purchase for an extra dollar the multiplier and then when the multiplier spun to five she won five times the second tier prize million dollar winner," said Connecticut Lottery President Anne Noble
"I'm surprised I didn't faint," said Marks
And the jackpot is so much sweeter because Rose nearly walked away from the lottery line at a Shaws Market in Fairfield.
"I waited in a long line and my son was outside waiting cause I don't drive and I thought I'm not going to wait any longer, cause the girl was kind of slow, but my feet didn't move and I'm glad they didn't," Marks said.
Even though she's now suddenly rich rose says she doesn't need much.
At 88 years old she just looks forward to waking up every day.
Rose will take home $700,000 after taxes.
And with 4 kids, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, it's no surprise what she plans to do with that money!!
