Editorial: Military Appreciation

Editorial          Military Appreciation              9-25-08

Hard to believe in the long and illustrious history of the Alabama National Fair there has never been a military appreciation day.

We applaud event organizers for offering a salute to America's veterans this year, on opening day next Friday.

Our community thrives because of all military personnel - active, national guard, reserve and retired.

The recognition to the group of World War II veterans who will be on hand for the opening ceremony will be especially poignant.

Many of them will be on the second Honor Flight from our region next Saturday and some will represent the group of World War II vets who went on the first Honor Flight trip from our region in May.

We also applaud all of the individuals and businesses who helped make the Honor Flight trips to Washington, D.C. to see the World War II memorial possible.

The River Region's generosity is a small token of our deep appreciation to all former and current military members for their service to our country.
