'Foreclosure Helpline' to open next week

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WSFA) - Officials with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the United Way will meet next Monday to announce the launch of "Foreclosure Helpline: Call 2-1-1".

The organizations want to combat the increased rate of foreclosures with a free referral dedicated to helping those who are on the verge of losing their homes.

Congressman Artur Davis (D) is scheduled to be on hand for the event and will address the initiative's importance.

Alabama foreclosures are up 30% from August of 2007, according to RealtyTrac Inc. which tracks foreclosures nationally.

WSFA 12 News will have more information in the days ahead.
