Democratic chief Howard Dean to visit Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The chairman of the national Democratic Party, Howard Dean, will be in Birmingham on Oct. 8 for a fundraising reception benefiting Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

The $1,000-a-person event will be at the Summit Club at 12:15 p.m.

One of the hosts, Birmingham attorney Doug Jones, said the visit is part of Dean's commitment to be actively involved in states that traditionally vote Republican for president.
