Apollo 13 astronaut visits capital city

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A man who has seen Earth and the moon like no other was in town  to share his stories Thursday.

Captain William James Lovell visited the capital city for a benefit for Faulkner University.

His most well know space missions were Apollo 8 and 13.

Lovell says Apollo 8 sticks in his mind the most, though an accident nearly cost him and his crew their lives aboard Apollo 13.

Apollo 8 was the first manned mission to the moon and during their mission they sent back spectacular photos of the Earth and moon.

Captain Lovell will share his stories tonight at Faulkner's benefit dinner at the Renaissance Hotel and Conference Center.
