Standoff ends: former Ozark officer taken to hospital

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - WSFA 12 News is on top of a developing story in the Dothan area at this hour.

A standoff has ended and the man who was refusing police demands to come out of the apartment has been taken to the hospital.

The man, identified as former Ozark police officer Chris Ford, was taken to an area hospital with self-inflicted knife wounds.

Dale County Sheriff Wally Olsen says Ford was inside the Oates Apartment complex surrounded by police and a SWAT team when he injured himself. The complex is located on Flynn Road.

There is no word at this time on how serious the man's injuries are.

Ford was honored in a special joint session of the Alabama legislature in 2005.

He recieved the Legislative Medal of Honor for bravery in the line of duty after being shot four times in 2004 while trying to arrest an attempted murder suspect.
