Boys Captured After Escape on Alabama Interstate

CLANTON, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say two boys were returned to the custody of juvenile authorities after they escaped at an interstate rest stop near Clanton.

The lookouts were posted Tuesday morning for the boys, ages 14 and 15, after they jumped from a Department of Youth Services vehicle on Interstate 65.

DYS spokesman Allen Peaton said the boys were being given a bathroom break when they bolted from a van transporting them from Mount Meigs to the Vacca campus in Birmingham.

Peaton said Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis and a deputy captured the juveniles in a wooded area near the rest stop.

He said the boys, whose names were withheld, will be charged with escape.
