College instructor with Alabama ties found beaten, in coma

CHARLOTTE, NC - WSFA 12 News is following a developing story tonight from North Carolina with an Alabama connection.

A University of North Carolina instructor with ties to Alabama is in a coma fighting for his life.

Narayan Dhakal was found lying unconscious on the street four days ago and  investigators managed to identify him Wednesday.

Dhakal attended Auburn University and Troy State though the exact years he attended are unknown at this time.

WSFA 12 News' sister station in Charlotte, North Carolina spoke with Dhakal's family.

"I think someone was using his cell when we first tried to call his number," said his brother Abi Dhakal, "his credit cards and other stuff...we're still trying to dig around and find out what's going on."

Relatives say he was visiting clubs in the area when he apparently ran into trouble on the way home.

Late Wednesday evening investigators found the victim's phone.

Now, authorities are searching through city cameras to find more information.

WSFA 12 News will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
