Lee Co. authorities probe noose, crosses in yard

SMITHS STATION, Ala. (AP) - The Lee County Sheriff's Office is trying to find out who left three wooden crosses in the yard of a biracial resident, including one spray painted with the letters "KKK" and a nylon rope in a noose hanging from it.

The Smiths Station resident, who filed a racial harassment complaint, returned home shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the crosses, ranging from three to five feet tall. The sheriff's office has contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation.
