Kalbi: Korean marinated BBQ short ribs

4lbs Beef Flanken Short Ribs
½ c. brown sugar
¾ c. soy sauce
1/2 small onion, peeled and grated
1/2 small asian pear, peeled and grated
4 cloves minced garlic
3 tbs. Sesame oil
½ c. water
½ tsp. Black pepper
2 green onions, thinly sliced(optional)

Combine brown sugar, soy sauce, onion, asian pear, garlic, sesame oil, water, and black pepper. Transfer beef short ribs to 2-1 gallon resealable bags.  Add marinade, squeeze out any excess air, and turn bag over several times to ensure that all the ribs have been covered with marinade.  Refrigerate for at least 2 hours but overnight is ideal.

Heat grill to medium-hot.  Drain excess marinade.  Grill 3-4 short ribs, turning once to desired temperature, about 2-3 minutes per side.  Garnish with thinly sliced green onions.

Accompany with:
Steamed short grain white rice
Kimchi (Spicy pickled cabbage)
Green leaf lettuce
Kochujang(Red Pepper Paste)
