Salvation Army opening its doors as the temp. drops

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - For those who have no place to stay when the mercury begins to drop the Salvation Army in Montgomery is opening its doors right now.

Normally the organization can take in 76 people, but when the temperature reaches below 35 degrees it puts cots and mats down to take in extra people.

On Monday night, the SA housed around 100 people.

Officials say not all of the people who need a place stay for the night are homeless, many have fallen on hard times or temporarily can't pay rent or utilities.

Captain Roy Harris says the Salvation Army will accept extra people again Tuesday night.

The organization tries to find a permament home for those who need their help.
