Harriott II's Homecoming in Montgomery

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) - The Harriott II, Montgomery's new riverboat, arrived at the riverwalk, on Friday.

The new riverboat will haul tourists and sightseers, carrying up to 400 passengers on it's three decks.  The original Harriott was the first riverboat to go from Mobile to Montgomery to pick up a shipment of cotton in 1821.

The boat left it's old home in Savannah, Georgia in the middle of September.

The riverboat arrived around 11:45am along Montgomery's riverfront. Many of you watched the arrival live on WSFA 12 News Alabama Live! A large crowd of people gathered to watch the boat's arrival.  Some lucky people actually got to hitch a ride on the boat before it made its way in to Montgomery.

The mayors' office says the boat is now going to undergo a large renovation project. They hope to have the first Alabama River tours around Thanksgiving.
