Auburn Preview - Auburn hopes for boost from Barber, young shooters

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - The Auburn basketball team opens play Friday night against Missouri State.

Auburn is still undersized and short on depth.

The Tigers have relied heavily on 3-pointers in recent years, including 34 percent last season to rank ninth in the SEC.

Lebo added high-scoring guard Frankie Sullivan and sharp-shooting junior college transfer Tay Waller to a backcourt that includes seniors Quantez Robertson and Rasheem Barrett.

Sullivan averaged 26.7 points as a senior and led R.C. Hatch to three consecutive Alabama state titles.

Waller shot 42 percent from 3-point range for Okaloosa Walton College last season and drained seven 3s against Morehouse.

He is a former high school teammate of Auburn forward Korvotney Barber, who is the team's biggest returnee.

Auburn hasn't made the postseason or had a winning SEC mark in the past five seasons.
